The History of our County
The Higher Chod Land, where we are, is located on the Czech – German border, between the towns of Domazlice/Taus and Waldmuenchen. This region is extremely rich in history and has undestroyed nature with many short and long wander paths. The hisory of the Chod land bring us to the beginning of the Czech kingdom, when the Czech kings gave these land to the Chod people to guard it. The Chods protected the border and for this service the kings granted them various privileges. In the Czech history the Chods are known for theis fight ofr their old rights. The span and the number of these privileges had decreased since the 16th century, as the importance of the Chod border guarding started to diminish. In the year 1695 Jan Sladky Kozina died. The Kozina´s farm in the village of Ujezd and his statue on the small hil Hradek are being constantly visited by the tourist from all countries. The museum of J.S.Baar in Klenci is the next place of interest visited by tourists. Many tourist come to the village of Postrekov to see the famous Mardi Gras procession, others prefer to make use of the peacefulnes of the nature and forests around and get relaxed. The highest peak of the Czech Forest mountain range - Cerchov - (1024 meters above the sea level) is located just only few miles away from the hotel.
The statue and the monument of the writer Jindrich Simon Baar
The statue and the monument of the writer Jindrich Simon Baar is only 300m away from the hotel. You can get there when you cross the road and go up the hill on a small path through the forest. By clear air one can see from there not only the town of Domazlice and its surroundings but also the towns of Kdyne, and Klatovy, and even a part of Bavaria, Germany. The monument was destroyed during the WWII and the stones were used to construct a a milk plant in the town of Waldmünchen, Germany. The statue was hidden in the Chod castle and after the WWII the monument was rebuilt again.
There is a path called the Baar´s path which leads from the village of Klenci to Vyhledy/ Views and is very often used for a walk by tourists as well as by the village inhabitants.
Cerchov - Kurz´s Turm (4 km)
The highest peak in the Bohemien Forest is Cerchov (1042 m).
The Kurz´s Tower : constructed of stones is the view tower, which may be used by public in July and August daily from 9:00 to 17:00 o`clock. In September the tower is open to public only on weekends and holidays also from 9:00 to 17:00 o´clock.
Next to the old Kurz´s tower there is a new one , originally used by military in the times of cold war, and today used for flight security.
The hill Cerchov is about 4 km away from the hotel in the direction to the German border. You must leave you car at a parking place in Capartice and then walk up about 3 km.
The museum of Jindrich Simon Baar (the Baar´s house, Klenci, 3 km)
The Baar museum is on the village square number 140, in Klenci. The one story building with a mansard roof type originates from the 1850´s. The collection shown here are concerned with the author Jindrich Simon Baar and the exhibits show the life of the Chod people in that time. The house with the number 94 ist the house where Jinidirch Simon baar was born, and you will find it on the main village road. There is a metal remembrance plate on the house.

The pot and ceramics productions have a long tradition in Klenci. The founder of the first ceramic works was Mr. Josef Mayer in 1835. Mayer was experienced and had another production manufacturing in the nearby village Zdanov. Both manufactures produced excellent porcelain and ceramic products. In 1943 the production programme was switcehd to electro-ceramics. The very special design and so called chod decor is still produced in the Chodovia works. The manufacture has its own two faktory outlets, one directly in the factory, and the other one on the square, in the house of so called „Old post office“. There is a possibility of an excursion to the manufacture joint with a possibility of a purches of the chod ceramic products. Some old pieces of the Chod ceramics are to be seen in the museum in Domazlice.
The Old Post office (Klenci, 3 km)
The Old Post Office Building is a unique building under monumental protection. There used to be the offices of the Customes in it and a pub. The regular postal service were carried out already in the year 1546, in the time of the King Rudolf II. The today´s one story shape of the building Number 4 comes since the 18th century. At the entrance a guest may want to read the words on a plate which reminds the stay of the Russian general A.V.Suvorov, who dwelt in this house for a while during the march of his troops in the year 1799.
The Church of the Holly Martin (Klenci, 3km)
The first written words about the medieval church in Klenci come from the year 1481. Its original form was maintained on a drawing by F.B.Werner, made in the year 1752. This drawing was made most probably according to even older artwork. This old church was demolished in the year 1743 and on its place a new church was constructed under the supervision of Filip Stadion. This new church building was finished in the year 1746 and dedicated to the Holly Martin. In this barogue one ship church building with a massiv tower there is furniture about 200 years old. Under one part of the building there is a burial vault where the famous „Lomikar“ was burried as well as many other members of the Stadion family. Some other tombstones which were worked into the floor of the church belong to the higher officials, cusom officers and some other townsmen. The parish with the barogue portal coming from the year 1754 is located on the main street just below the church.
The Kozina´s farm and The Jan Sladky Kozina monument on the Hill Hradek (Ujezd, 4 km)
The family house of Jan Sladky Kozina who lead the Chod rebellion for preserving the old Chod rights is located jsut only 4 km from the hotel.

Only the slim tower remained from the original medieval castle where the earl and the Chod judge used to live. After the big fire in September 1592 only ruins remained from the castle. The repairs in the years 1726,1727 and in the year 1830 gave the castle its today´s form. Nowadays there is The Chod museum in the castle with many folk exhibits, pictures, artworks and historical artefacts.
Folks museum – The Jindrich Simon Baar Museum (Domazlice)
This museum came to being on the basis of the private collections of the music author, Jindrich Jindrich (1876 – 1967). You may find there a typical Chod room furnished with the old furniture, many Chod traditional costumes and the outstanding Jindrich´s collection of glass paintings.
